A key component of creating quality long-term workouts is ensuring that general cleaning and maintenance are performed regularly. In just a few minutes, you can have your treadmill tuned and ready for more miles. This guide will show you how to ensure optimal working conditions.
TIGHTEN YOUR BOLTS AND SCREWS
With the extra time, your treadmill bolts and screws may loosen due to the impact vibrations of your treadmill workouts. To ensure the safety and proper operation of your treadmill, it is important to inspect the bolts and screws to see if they are loose. Perform this check approximately once a month or sooner if you are a high mileage user. If a bolt or screw is loose, simply use the tools provided for the initial assembly of the treadmill.
KEEP YOUR DECK RUNNING
After every workout, clean your running belt with a moist cloth to eliminate any dust or wetness that may have collected during your workout. This will prevent any sticky residue from encountering any of the moving parts of the treadmill.
Make sure your belt is properly aligned on your treadmill. Non-aligned belts can be subject to uneven wear and even tear if rubbed against the treadmill frame incorrectly. Treadmills may have different order adjustment processes, so it is most beneficial to refer to the user manual on how to have proper alignment. However, many treadmills have settings that can be easily changed with an Allen key. You can make alignment adjustments by turning your Allen key clockwise and counterclockwise to obtain the desired adjustment.
LUBRICATE YOUR TREADMILL
Proper lubrication of the running platform is necessary to avoid treadmill failure. The treadmills are designed to support moving parts. But constant movement can create additional friction, which can break parts. Most treadmills require lubrication every six months or 150 miles, whichever comes first.
You can lubricate your treadmill by lifting the treadmill on one side and cleaning the exposed part of the treadmill with a cloth and lubricant applied. Silicone-based sprays usually work best for the treadmill.
REST YOUR ENGINE
If you’re running to make your wardrobe belt fit, you may need to give your treadmill belt a rest. The treadmill is constantly moving, and that can be a heavy mechanical task for any engine. We suggest power off the treadmill for a minimum of 10 minutes for every 2 hours of usage to prolong the lifetime of your motor.
CLEAN YOUR AREA
One of the simplest maintenance tips is something that merely involves your treadmill: cleaning the neighboring area. Watch out for moisture, dust, or anything that can easily lodge on the treadmill, especially underneath the gear. Vacuum frequently around the belt to avoid dust accumulation. Keep the frame of the treadmill clean. You should use a cleaning solution that not only reduces the spread of harmful bacteria but also prevents the metal from becoming contaminated.
